How Do I Grow My Network Online?

To help your business, here are a few things you can do to build your network online. We'll also provide some tips on making the most of your networking experiences.

The first step is to identify your goals for growing your network. Once you have a plan in mind, you can target the right people and groups to connect with.

  • LinkedIn can be a great place to start, as it's a professional networking site that allows you to connect with like-minded individuals worldwide. You can also join groups related to your industry or interests and participate in discussions to build relationships with other members. You can then post articles regularly, and message your connections directly.

  • Twitter is another excellent platform for networking. It's a fast-paced site that allows you to connect with people quickly and easily. Follow relevant individuals and organizations, and share your thoughts and ideas on Twitter to get noticed. You can also use hashtags to connect with people who share your interests.

  • In-person networking events are also a great way to meet new people and expand your network. Attend industry conferences, meetups, and other events where you can mingle with like-minded individuals. Business cards are still relevant in the digital age, so don't forget to bring some with you to exchange with the people you meet. You can then connect with these people online, to easily keep a regular connection.

Remember to focus on your goals and be active on social media and in-person networking events.

With any offline or online conversation, always have a specific goal in mind. E.g. don’t just “go for a coffee” with someone; formulate a goal.

Is it to find our more about their business, share more about yours, deepen your friendship, ask them for referrals… what?

We’re not saying turn the coffee into a heartless sales presentation… but if you have a goal in mind, how you approach the conversation will be different.

With a bit of effort, you'll be surprised at how many new connections you can make. Happy connecting!
